YourViews on housing in your area
Scotland declared a National Housing Emergency on May 15, 2024. Since then, thirteen individual Local Authorities have declared their own localized housing emergencies. The housing crisis in Scotland is marked by several critical issues:
Temporary Accommodation: Nearly 16,330 households, including 10,110 children, are living in temporary housing.
Overcrowded and Unsafe Housing: Approximately 1.5 million people reside in overcrowded, dangerous, unstable, or unaffordable conditions.
Fuel Poverty: Around 800,000 people are unable to heat their homes.
The situation across the country remains dire, with families struggling to afford and find safe and stable homes. The new planning system in Scotland has led to a sharp decline in new build housing completions, and new site starts are at the lowest level since records began.
We would like to build a better picture of how this crisis is impacting the country and we are keen to hear YourViews on how you are affected.
