YourViews for Summerston, City of Glasgow

An exciting new neighbourhood

Please give your views on proposals to create a new neighbourhood and place to call home at Summerston, Glasgow. Proposals for the site will be promoted through the Glasgow City Development Plan (CDP2). Designs are at early stages and we would be delighted if you would have your say to help influence the master planning.

The proposed development could deliver an impressive choice of high-quality homes, perfect for a wide range of potential buyers in the area.

The new homes will be sensitively set within the existing landscape framework and will include substantial green open spaces. The proposed development will be of the highest quality and designed to fit within the natural riverside context of the site. The site is located close to local shops, facilities and public transport.

Site details

The site lies to the north of the established residential area of Summerston to the north of the City of Glasgow. The site represents a logical expansion to the City. The River Kelvin runs along the northern boundary, with the Kelvin Walkway Core Path then running south along the western boundary and the established housing area of Summerston defining the southern edge.

John Paul Academy, St Blanes Roman Catholic Primary School and Caldercuilt Primary are all in close proximity, with Cleveden High School approximately 2.5km to the south. Bus routes are currently accessible with Summerston train station located within 1.2 km to the south.

The proposal

Design work for the site is at an early stage. The purpose is to build great homes and create a thriving new community which will bring long term economic and social benefits to the established areas.

The proposals would represent a sustainable and natural extension to the village. The new homes will be set in extensive open space with proposed green corridors linking to an expansive biodiverse wetland to area in the north.

The site has significant potential for creating a healthy, sustainable and resilient new community which will connect well and integrate with the existing community.

Landscape fit

Development at Summerston would be a logical rounding of the city edge. This is demonstrated by this montage image showing an artist’s illustration of how the development will form and sit within the landscape.

Where next?

We would appreciate your feedback. We will review all responses received and these will help shape our designs for the promotion of the site through the Glasgow City Development Plan (CDP2).
